Month 1 Review

I managed to lose 3.4 pounds in January.  Not quite what I'd hoped, but a better January than I've had in years.  Most years I lose 4 or 5 by the middle of the month and then gain it all back by February 1st.  With our trip to Vegas and all, I think I did ok.

I was in dire need of finding some new healthy recipes because I'm always at a loss as to what to make for dinner, aside from the 3 or 4 things that I make all the time because they are things the girls will actually eat.  So I got on Pinterest this morning and found a whole bunch of low-carb/Keto friendly recipes that I'm going to try over the next several weeks.  We'll see how it goes.

Good Start

As of Friday the 4th I was down 3.8.  But then I had to work storm duty on Monday and even though I tried to plan ahead and be prepared (knowing that there would be all kinds of not-on-plan food) I still ended up eating cheesecake and then I was thrown off for the whole rest of the week.  So today I will plan my menu for this week and go shopping and hopefully get back on track, but then we leave Friday morning for Las Vegas for the long weekend (and early 50th birthday trip), so it won't matter that much anyway.  I'll have to really get back on track in earnest once we're home from that trip.

Let 2019 be the Year

I make a New Year's Resolution every year to lose weight, and many years ago I was sometimes successful, but for the last several years I have been in a horrible cycle of losing and regaining the same 3 or 4 pounds over and over.  Several times I have managed to lose 5 or 6 or 9 but I always immediately gain those back too.  At the start of every year my weight is just a little bit higher than it was the year before and I'm sick of it.  I am determined to make 2019 the year I finally get my act together and make some changes.

I am going to start by greatly reducing (NOT eliminating) my consumption of sugar and carbs.  I'm not necessarily a proponent of low-carb eating, and even if I was I know I would never be able to stick with it for very long but I want to try it for a little bit just to get the ball rolling.
